Letter to the Editor:

I have the belief that Obama has done nothing to help our country, and in fact, has done everything he can to subjugate us. He has preached these ideals for decades now, is close friends with those who push these beliefs and even included them in his book. Yet he was re-elected.

He has taken freedoms away from us. He has put us deeper into debt. Our dollar is growing poorer as are we. He has given away trillions to useless entities.  Now we, our children and our grandchildren are stuck with the bill and less freedom. How can this be so? How can the American people re-elect someone who does this? Well it is actually quite simple.

A man by the name of Edmund Burke once wrote, “Those who don’t know history are doomed to repeat it.”

There is also another theory known as the Tytler Cycle, which states that, “No democracy can exist as a permanent form. It can only exist until the majority discovers it can vote itself generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority will always vote for the candidate that promises the most benefits from the public treasury. The end result is loose fiscal policy. This triggers a collapse, and a dictatorship will begin.”

We are now at an extraordinary time in our country’s life. More people are on welfare than ever before and government employees are rampant with unbelievable power (the Internal Revenue Service, National Security Administration, Transportation Security Administration and etc.).

So why did they vote for someone who is doing this? Quite simple actually. They voted for the guy who will give them generous gifts from the public treasury. And because the majority does not study history, they don’t realize or understand what is actually happening. It is not known to them that socialism has never worked in the history of the world. The poor stay poor, the middle class get poor and the rich get poor. All the while, the government taxes as much as they can to pay for their extravagant excess. The chance to actually succeed evaporates.

The people who founded this country and those who immigrated here came from countries with a socialist-totalitarian type of government. Those are the people that originally built this country. They came here with nothing but the idea that you could succeed in America. Millions of them did just that, they came and they succeeded.

Those who stayed in their home country were poor, murdered, terrorized and trampled upon. Here in America, they were free to do as they feel and follow the religious beliefs that they base their principles on.

Then there were those who gave up hope in a candidate or the system; they didn’t vote because they felt their vote didn’t matter. Too many Americans died giving them that right to vote, and they cast it away like the shots at Bunker Hill, the minié balls at Gettysburg and the blood flowing into the ocean along the beaches of Normandy. They turned the other cheek and let themselves be hit by the tidal wave instead of doing what they could to stop it.

Someone once said that a single drop will not affect a river, but millions of drops will. But history has been forgotten and we are at the precipice of our society, tipped to socialism. The fall will be hard if we let it continue. The time has come to batten down the hatches and fight this terrible thing that is now in motion.

By reputable, I meant having a good reputation amongst his/her peers. Probably more important for purposes of a discussion that you and I would have, would be objective. I'd suggest Norman Naimark - renowned Eastern European historian and Stanford University professor, with many articles and other published works talking specifically about Stalin and Hitler. You don't need to have an historian who's written about Obama to be able to draw conclusions. If you were to read some of Naimark's articles regarding Stalin and Hitler, it would be extremely difficult to make analogies to Obama's administration.

And you want to know what? I hope I am wrong with this. I hope that it never comes to fruition because I hate to think of what my children and grandchildren will have to live with if it does.

So if it means keeping vigilant so that this doesn't happen, then that is what I am going to do.

Why my views cause so much grief from others is beyond me though. I think that scares me more than what Obama is up to. Because it shows that people will follow that path until the end.

Because to be completely honest, I don't know that I will be able to find one as it is still too early in history to judge what his administration is.

My point here is that there is a path that this country is heading down, and this is how those dictators came into power. We have the IRS who targeted conservative and tea party groups before the last election. There is an attack in the military to remove Christianity, and a more recent attack by Obama himself to dismantle catholic schools. The strong push for common core, written up by communist leaders. The never ending push for the ban of firearms. The ability for the president to lock up or kill American citizens without due process. Spying on our own press.

Will he follow the same atrocities as them, no he will not. But the erosion of our freedoms is what precedes a dictatorship.

I love this country and our freedoms too much to see them destroyed. Is that so hard to understand?

Denny,

Please define what your definition is by a "reputable historian".

No clue what you're talking about regarding judgment. And, it makes little difference to me whether or not you want to engage in discussion -- I'm happy either way.

There's no factual backup to your contentions, you didn't answer any of the questions I asked, and it's pretty hard to dispute that what you blame on Obama isn't really all his doing.

I'd challenge you to provide one analysis by a reputable historian that validates your claim that the Obama administration bears a strong resemblance to either Stalinist Russia or Hitler's Germany.

Without doubt, Obama's administration is the most liberal since FDR - maybe since ever. I disagree with the vast majority of positions that he and his administration take. However, likening his tenure to that of Stalin or Hitler is disrespectful to anyone who might've lived through those times and disengenous.

Denny,

Due to previous comments and reactions from you on other topics, I would rather not make discussion with you about any of this. I fear that ultimately you will throw out the old "judgement" response... But what the heck.

The information is out there, I have shared this stuff before, Frank has shared it before, many others have as well. I am not going to reiterate what has already been displayed. No one seems to like it or look at it, and immediately dismiss it as "rhetoric".

And "rhetoric" you say? I remember a year ago how conservative groups were being accused of "rhetoric" when it came to unfair treatment by the IRS.

I remember how it was "rhetoric" when people would say that the NSA was violating our rights.

So, continue on to say that it is only just "rhetoric".

There are so many things on which to comment -- starting with the obvious. Whatever has been done relative to the deficit, entitlements, freedoms has not been done by Obama himself. There have been no unilateral pronouncements to keep spending our way into oblivion nor to infringe on the rights that you elicited in your post #5. There's plenty of blame to go around on both sides of the aisle. The rhetoric about Obama's socialism and communism and the resulting subjugation of the US populace is tiresome and so over reaching. Regarding welfare, to what do you refer? Medicaid? Food stamps? Educational credits? Unemployment? Seems like it would be important to know what you're including in your contention that there are more people on welfare now than ever before. Is it more proportionate to population growth?
There's no legitimate analogy re: Stalin or Hitler. Just more rhetoric.

Jeff,

I am not a conservative... Funny you would say that. It shows that you put your blinders up and associated me with your mortal enemy. I guess you will have to add libertarians to your list as well.

As I said, I will fight and never back down on these issues. When it comes to our freedoms as stated in the Constitution, I will never back down.

Also, I answered your questions.

And common civility? Very funny that someone like you would even bring that up. A promoter of murdering innocent lives has no room to talk when it comes to civility.

Look in the mirror Jeff!

It is very clear that no matter what I say (or anyone for that matter that does not side with your viewpoint) you will just deflect because that is your view on everything, just like most conservatives. You are so bent on the advancement of your group's view, that no matter what anyone says, you will argue to the end to hold that view.

Look in the mirror, Tim.

If reason, nuance and questions (and, frankly, common civility) are not to your liking, so be it. Perhaps we can engage again some other time.

Jeff,

It is very clear that no matter what I say (or anyone for that matter that does not side with your viewpoint), you will just deflect because that is your view on everything, just like most liberals. You are so bent on the advancement of your group’s view, that no matter what anyone says, you will argue to the end to hold that view. But I won’t back down either because I hold the belief that above all, the Constitution is the law of this land and cannot be changed.
