Rosalie O’Neill, age 89, a resident of St. Germain, Wis., for 31 years and formerly of Davenport, Iowa, passed away on Monday, Sept. 9, 2013, at Avanti Healthcare & Rehab in Minocqua, Wis.

She was born on Aug. 5, 1924, in Ishpeming, Mich., to Leo and Lillian Hart.

She grew up in Milwaukee, Wis., and graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in 1942.

She worked at Hart Tool and Die in Milwaukee, and supported the war effort as a Red Cross volunteer until her marriage to Joseph O’Neill in October of 1945. They raised their family in Ishpeming, and in 1967, moved to Davenport.

During Rosalie’s years of employment, she worked at Northern Michigan University in Marquette, Mich., also as the executive assistant to the Base Commander at K.I. Sawyer AFB in Gwinn, Mich., and as a Civilian Personnel Specialist at the Rock Island Arsenal in Rock Island, Ill., until her retirement in 1982.

She was a member of the Lady Knights of Columbus from Holy Family Church, the American Legion Auxiliary in Three Lakes, Wis., St. Germain Lioness Club, the St. Germain PrimeTimers, the St. Germain Women’s Service Club, the Uno Club and the Shipmates.

Rosalie was an avid reader and loved knitting. Above all she loved and supported her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and their activities.

Her proudest accomplishment was being the founder and director of “Camp Grandma.”

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph, in 1982; her son, Tim O’Neill; her infant daughter, Peggy; and her brothers, Tom Hart and Ken Hart.

Rosalie is survived by her daughters, Rosalie (Gerhard) Schiffmann of St. Germain, Wis., Kathy Renkes of Eagle River, Wis., and Mary Kay (Leo) Horant of Eagle River; daughter-in-law, Ginger O’Neill of Deerfield, Ill.; grandchildren, Christine (Michael) Willette of Rothschild, Wis., Glenn (Mary) Schiffmann of St. Germain, Leo (Charlotte) Horant of Eagle River, Ian (Jenni) Renkes of St. Germain, Kari Anne (Geoff) VeZain of Ottawa, Ill., Joshua (Kristin) Renkes of St. Germain, Scott (Beth) Horant of Dover, Del., Shannon (D.J.) Walker of Eagle River, Lauren O’Neill of Deerfield, Ill., Jennifer (Justin) O’Neill of St. Joseph, Mich., and Gregory (Jen) Horant of Eagle River.

Also survived by great-grandchildren, Shawn Willette, Andrea Willette, Emma Schiffmann, Zachary Bloom, Dennis Pampuch, Zoe Horant, Mackenzie Renkes, Gunnar Schiffmann, Ryan Walker, Leo Horant, Elliot Horant, Isabelle Renkes, Avery Renkes, Alex Renkes, Henry Horant and Mya Renkes; and many dear friends.

Funeral services were held Sept. 16, 2013, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Woodruff, Wis.

Memorials to the St. Germain PrimeTimers or the St. Germain Women’s Service Club are appreciated by the family.
