Illegal dumping at museum site is equivalent to theft from charity PDF Print E-mail

Dear Editor:

During the ongoing renovation of the Eagle River Historical Society’s new museum, four televisions, other electronics and hazardous waste have been deposited in and around the construction dumpster.

Disposing of this material safely has cost the society almost $100 and forced volunteers to climb over dangerous debris to remove it from the dumpster.

This illegal dumping may have seemed like a clever solution to the person responsible, but is the moral equivalent of theft. It has diverted donated funds that were intended for the renovation fund. Those who did this and those who are aware of those who did it are all responsible.

The historical society is by no means the only victim of this illegal behavior. It happens wherever there is an opportunity.

In this case, we offer the responsible parties a chance to make restitution. Our mailing address is P.O. Box 231, Eagle River, WI 54521. Send a check, or in the alternative, spend the rest of your life as a person who steals from charities.
