Student numbers fall again in two of three area schools

Student enrollment dropped in two of three area  districts to start the school year,  falling to their lowest levels in more than a decade.

Northland Pines, Three Lakes and Phelps schools all witnessed student declines in the late 1990s and early  2000s, creating tight budgets due to state-mandated revenue caps based on enrollment.

But district administrators at all three school districts felt enrollment numbers were leveling off, starting five years ago.

This year, however, two of the three districts saw their numbers drop again on the third Friday

I am pleased to learn that the Phelps school continues to do well. I graduated from that high school in l954. I left the community in 1959. A portion of my heart never left. What an educational success story that school presents to anyone paying attention to education in our country.
