|Escaped Vilas prisoner taken into custody|
An 18-year-old Vilas County Jail prisoner who walked away from St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield Tuesday night, was taken into custody in Lac du Flambeau early Wednesday morning, according to authorities.
Jeffery J. Bauman Jr. was transported from the Vilas County Jail to St. Joseph’s Hospital Friday, Oct. 25, for medical attention that had caused paralysis of his lower extremities, according to a Vilas County Sheriff’s Department press release.
Bauman, of Lac du Flambeau, walked away from the hospital Tuesday,
Oct. 29, at 9:51 p.m.
Lac du Flambeau Tribal Police located Bauman in Lac du Flambeau Wednesday, Oct. 30, at 12:41 a.m. and Bauman fled in a vehicle. He apparently crashed the vehicle and fled on foot and officers pursued him. Bauman was taken into custody at 3:02 a.m. without incident, according to authorities.
Bauman faces new charges, including escape, fleeing an officer, recklessly endangering safety, all felony charges.
Authorities said additional arrests may follow pursuant to the investigation for those assisting Bauman with his escape from custody.
The Vilas County Sheriff’s Department and Lac du Flambeau Tribal Police were assisted by Woodruff Police, Minocqua Police and the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office.
