|Big Brothers Big Sisters is rewarding experience|
Letter to the Editor:
I am so excited to read about Big Brothers Big Sisters in the North Woods! I moved from the Twin Cities to Rhinelander about a year and a half ago and was involved as a Big in the Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Twin Cities program and had a wonderful experience.
The match specialists at Big Brothers Big Sisters spend time with you before making a match to make sure each match is successful, plus they provide support throughout the match.
I was involved in the school-based program and was matched up with Jane, my Little, when she was in the fourth grade. I met Jane over the lunch hour every Wednesday at her school. We would eat lunch together and then we would have time to do homework, play games, do crafts or cook lunch together in the school kitchen.
Over the five years of lunches together, we developed a great relationship and I truly look at her as a little sister and really value the time we were able to spend together.
Once Jane reached high school, we had to end the match officially as I was moving to Rhinelander and she was getting ready to move with her family to New York. We still keep in touch regularly and I don’t see that ever changing.
I am hoping to get a bowling team together at my workplace, Drs. Foster and Smith, to participate in the Bowl for Kids’ Sake event April 4 in Rhinelander. There is also a Bowl for Kid’s Sake April 12 in Park Falls and both events will raise money to support the program and matches in the North Woods.
Big Brothers Big Sisters truly is a rewarding experience for both the Big and the Little and I would encourage people to sign up to be a part of this program.
