On Oct. 26, 1937, Charlie was born in Eagle River, Wis., to Laurence and Laura (Kalous) Brown. He was the fourth of eight siblings.

Charlie was mostly raised in Chicago, but never forgot his roots in Eagle River.

He moved back to Eagle River, full time, on Jan. 21, 2012. His life came full circle when he passed on Sunday, March 23, 2014.

He met his wife, Bernardine (Kestian) in Chicago, and they were married Aug. 1, 1959, at St. Michael the Archangel Church in “Back of the Yards.”

He was a retired carpenter from Local 1889 in Downers Grove, Ill. He worked 40 years for Allied Drywall.

Charlie’s favorite pastime was fishing in Canada with his boys on Jeanette Lake, pheasant hunting, drag racing with him behind the wheel of “Mighty Mouse,” working at the sawmill with his “Best Bud,” Ken Schels and crew, and working with wood building furniture.  Being able to work was his life.

He also loved his ’60 Chevy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lorraine (Frank) Nosarzewski; brothers, Bob, Larry and Kenny; infant son, Donald; and infant grandson, Stephen; plus his best pal, “Schnus.”

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Donna (Dan) Kaput of Manhattan, Ill., and Annette (Mike) Milan of Carol Stream, Ill.; sons, Don (Beth) and Chuck (Debi) of Chicago, Ill.; sisters, Carol Duffek of Eagle River, Bonnie (O.C.) Heath of Port Orchard, Wash.; brother, Howard (Peggy) of Lyons, Ill.; sisters-in-law, Natalie Fanelle of Crestwood, Ill., Rheaetta Brown of Rheinbeck, Iowa; aunt, Agnes Kalous of Riverside, Ill.; nine grandsons and five granddaughters; six great-grandkids; his little girl, “Casey,” many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Also, longtime friends, Jack and Michelle Klotz of Eagle River, plus many “lifelong friends.”

A funeral service will be held at noon on Saturday, March 29, 2014, at Gaffney-Busha Funeral Home in Eagle River. Visitation wil be held at 11 the time of the service at the funeral home.
