|Hats off to our local pharmacist for not selling tobacco products|
Letter to the Editor:
CVS Pharmacies recently received a lot of media coverage for its decision to discontinue selling tobacco products by Oct. 1, 2014.
Covered far less in the media is the fact that our own Health Care Pharmacies in Land O’ Lakes, St. Germain and Wall Street in Eagle River have also refused to sell tobacco products for more than 25 years. While their decision isn’t likely to garner as many headlines, it is equally deserving of our recognition. We, from the Northwoods Tobacco Free Coalition, thank Larry Thompson, owner and pharmacist, for taking this stance. We would hope more pharmacies would join him in not selling tobacco products.
Tobacco products are incredibly harmful. Given the destructive health effects, it’s obvious that they have no place in pharmacies, whose primary purpose is to help people get healthy. I’m grateful that pharmacies great and small are recognizing this important fact.
