Caring for neighbors alive and well in North PDF Print E-mail

Letter to the Editor:

The Land O’ Lakes community has an incredible history of taking care of the people that call the area home.  Recently, St. Albert’s Parish hosted a fundraising fish fry to assist Dan and Debbie Kauzlaric with medical and personal expenses associated with Dan’s cancer treatments.

To say the event was successful is an understatement.  Well over 200 people were fed, the bucket raffles had an incredible response and a goodly number of generous cash donations were also received. Through these efforts, the Kauzlarics received some much-needed financial relief of more than $5,500.

The event would not be successful without the support of the entire community.  Many businesses and individuals donated prizes for the bucket raffles.  Three other area churches — Pioneer Lake Lutheran, Ely Memorial United Church of Christ and St. Mary’s Catholic of Phelps — were of great assistance in pre-selling tickets.  Even more churches in the area helped promote the event by including the information in their newsletters.

There was an army of volunteers that set up, cooked, served, bussed tables and cleaned up at the end of the event. The Catholic community of St. Albert’s would like to recognize all the people and businesses that made this event possible. The charitable spirit of caring for neighbors who are in need in the North Woods is alive and well.
