|Haven ‘Charley’ Requa|
Haven “Charley” Requa, a lifelong summertime resident and permanent resident of Phelps since 1977, died Monday, June 9, in Rhinelander. He was 97.
Mr. Requa was born May 20, 1917, in Lake Forest, Ill., to Haven and Gladys Requa.He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and served as town chairman on the Phelps Town Board and on the Vilas County Board of Supervisors.
He was actively involved in the Phelps education system and the historical society.
Mr. Requa was elected the honorary commodore of the Long Lake Sunfish Fleet, and co-hosted “My Favorites” on WXPR radio with his daughter, Mary.
His interests included fishing and sailing.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Goodrich Requa; his second wife, Norma Engberg Requa; one daughter, Mary; and one son, Charles Haven.
Survivors include one son, Patrick Goodrich; one daughter-in-law, Martha of Lake Bluff, Ill.; one stepson, Dale (Jan) Engberg of Rockford, Ill.; one stepdaughter, Susan Engberg of Green Bay; three grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and numerous relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
