Ruffed grouse drumming counts show slight increase in North Woods

While the northern region  showed a slight increase in  ruffed grouse drumming counts this spring, state wildlife experts said the overall ruffed grouse population in Wisconsin has shown another slight decline, according to a recent roadside grouse survey.

Results from this survey help Department of Natural Resources (DNR) biologists monitor the cyclic population trends of ruffed grouse in the state.

“The index that Wisconsin uses to track ruffed grouse decreased 1% between 2013 and 2014,”
