LA CROSSE — Sophia Lorent of Eagle River was named to the dean’s list at UW-La Crosse for the 2011 spring semester.
MADISON — Laura Schoff of Eagle River earned semester honors and was named to the dean’s list for the 2011 spring semester at Edgewood College.

More than 300 in attendance at Northland Pines cabaret

The Northland Pines High School jazz ensemble, polka band and vocal solos/groups put on a show for a record crowd of more than 300 people in the school commons in Eagle River on May 25.
The cabaret, sponsored in part by the Northland Pines Music Boosters, was emceed by Josh Tilley, dean of students.
The jazz ensemble performed 20 tunes including jazz standards “In the Mood,” “Mood Indigo,” and “Hay Burner,” as well as fan favorites such as “Love Shack,” “Crazy Little Thing Called Love,” and “Theme from Family Guy.”

Pines concert band award winners named

The Northland Pines concert band recently held its final concert of the 2010-11 school year.
Many band students received awards in the form of letters, trophies, plaques and four major band awards.
Recipients of band letters were Cody Droes, Morgan Kolinski, Anthony Camdoeca, Aaron Kelling, Christian Svetnicka and Steven Vogel.
Band trophies were awarded to Zach Munnik, Dakota Wagner, Perry Camodeca, Christian Svetnicka, Sam Puffer and Josh Karlovich.

Area students compete in Mind Magic event

The Mind Magic Competition, an annual problem-solving event, was recently held  in Tomahawk.
Seven schools from Cooperative Educational Service Agency 9, including Eagle River, St. Germain and Land O’ Lakes, competed in three areas: pool problem solving, drama and small machine building.

The Northland Pines High School (NPHS) forensics team recently competed at the Wisconsin High School Forensics Association State Competition held at UW-Madison.
All 27 team members medaled in their categories.
Gold medals were awarded  to Alex Camp, Benn Gober,  Tim Hartwig and Kristina Spieker in playacting; Rachel Hess in solo acting; Kirsten Klessig in poetry; and Catherine Graf  and Christian Svetnicka in public address.

Three Lakes eighth-grade students met with a surprise during a recent class trip to Washington, D.C., when they visited Arlington National Cemetery at the same time as an Honor Flight of World War II veterans from northern Wisconsin.
