Marlowe Parklin Burgy

Marlowe Parklin Burgy, a resident of Eagle River and formerly of Tomahawk, Sun Lakes, Ariz., and Conroy, Iowa, died Sunday, June 1, 2014, at Milestone Senior Living in?Eagle River. He was 94.

Carl D. Duckworth

Carl D. Duckworth, 77, of Watertown, Wis., passed away at his home on Monday, May 26, 2014, surrounded by his family.

Funeral services were held on Friday, May 30, at 4 p.m. at Hafemeister Funeral Home in Watertown with Lay Minister Seth Hoeppner of Faith Lutheran Church officiating.  Military rites were conducted following the service at the funeral home.

Memorials in Carl’s name may be made to Marquardt Hospice.

Phyllis J. Kranz

Phyllis J. Kranz went to be with her husband, Werner (Nov. 11, 2008), on May 22, 2014.

She leaves behind her sister-in-law, Maxine Mehlhoff of Bloomington, Minn.; her beloved cocker spaniel, Lucy; and her beautiful sweet cat, Chloe; her dearest, closest friends, Mark and Ann Ubert, and Mort and Nelda Blatt.

She will be missed by her Eagle River family, Dorothy, Flo, Nina, Janet, Arlene; and her bowling teammates.

Eugene Maney

Eugene “Geno” Maney of Sugar Camp, Wis., age 75, passed away peacefully at home on May 31, 2014, surrounded by his family.

He was born on March 19, 1939, in Elkhorn, Wis., to the late Ralph and Dorothy (Amos) Maney.

He graduated from Three Lakes High School in 1957, and proudly served in the U.S. Army for three years, 1957-1960.

Richard A. Nixon

Richard A. Nixon of Eagle River, Wis., passed away from multiple health-related issues, Monday, June 2, 2014, at Ministry Eagle River Memorial Hospital. He was 76.

Richard was born Dec. 19, 1937, in Rhinelander, Wis., to William and Patricia (née Dobosenski) Nixon.

He attended St. Mary’s Elementary School and graduated from Rhinelander High School in 1956.

Norman Smith

Norman Smith of Eagle River died Monday, May 26, 2014, at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King. He was 82.

Mr. Smith was born Aug. 5, 1931, in Hartford, Conn., the son of John Norman and Dorothy Smith.

He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War following his graduation from Queen Elizabeth High School in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.

Debra “Debbi” Stevens, a longtime resident of Eagle River, died Thursday, May 29, 2014, in Rochester, Minn. She was 60.

Mrs. Stevens was born Aug. 29, 1953, in West Bend, to Milton and Helen Kertscher.

Her interests included travelling, reading, attending sporting events, and supporting her children and grandchildren.

Jo Ann C. Birkeness

Jo Ann C. Birkeness of Eagle River died Saturday, May 24, 2014, at Friendly Village Nursing Home in Rhinelander. She was 83.

Mrs. Birkeness was born March 24, 1931, in Green Bay, the daughter of Fred and Agnes (née Rasmussen) Krenzien. She was raised and attended schools in Green Bay.

She was married to David Birkeness and together they owned and operated the Mud Creek Saloon in Eagle River. She also was employed as a dietitian at the Eagle River Nursing Home.

Katie Caprich

Katie (née Bittenbender) Caprich, formerly of Eagle River, died Friday, May 2, 2014, in Payson, Ariz. She was 86.

Mrs. Caprich was preceded in death by her husband, John, formerly of Eagle River.

Survivors include one daughter, Susann Conklin of Mesa, Ariz.; two sons, Bill (Kathy) of Panama City, Fla. and John III (Wanda) of Mesa; one sister, Marcia (Dave) Koss of Brooklyn Park, Minn.; and two grandsons.

Funeral services were in held in Arizona.
