Fab lab visit
Cindy Polzin, who is Gov. Walker’s senior director of Legislative and Local Affairs, recently toured Oneida County and stopped at the new Fab Lab at Three Lakes High School. She was given a demonstration of several manufacturing processes available in the lab, including three-dimensional printing and laser engraving. Polzin also was shown how this new technology could be used in other classes. Arts association to hold four-concert music series

Now in its 20th year, the Three Lakes School-Community Arts Association has announced the dates for its four-concert music series.

“For two decades now, the Three Lakes School-Community Arts Association has brought wonderful talent to the North Woods, and that tradition continues with the performances scheduled for the 2014-’15 series year,” said an event spokesperson.

Lions auction
 The Three Lakes Lions Club held its annual auction Saturday using items donated by members of the community. Legion to hold chicken dinner

The Three Lakes American Legion will hold a broasted chicken dinner Saturday, July 26, serving from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

The dinner will include broasted chicken with all the trimmings, coffee and dessert for a cost of $10. The Jim Pekol Trio will perform music starting at 7 p.m.

For reservations, call (715) 546-3431 after noon. Tickets also may be picked up at the American Legion.

There will be no business meetings of American Legion Post 431 and Auxiliary in the months of July or August. They will reconvene Tuesday, Sept. 2, at 7 p.m.

Genealogical society to meet at Demmer

The Three Lakes Gene­alogical Society will meet Monday, July 28, at 1 p.m. in the lower level of the Demmer Library.

The program for this meeting will be “Preparing My Family History for My Descendants.”

Members of the society will talk about their experiences of compiling and writing a family history book for their families. They also will share what steps worked for them and what they would do differently.

Bus to transport seniors

Seniors 55 and older and adults with disabilities can reserve a seat on the Forest County bus traveling to Rhine­­lander via Three Lakes and Sugar Camp Wednesday, Aug. 13.

The lift-equipped bus will originate in Crandon and make stops in Argonne and Hiles before stopping in Three Lakes at approxi­mately 8:15 a.m.

Wingspan to perform at Concerts in the Park

The Three Lakes Historical Society will welcome the band Wingspan to make a debut performance at the Concerts in the Park music series Tuesday, July 22, at 7 p.m. at the Cy Williams Park gazebo.

“This eclectic and unique musical ensemble is no stranger to those who have attended the Three Lakes Historical Society’s annual fish boil, and now audiences have the opportunity to enjoy their array of musical styles in a full concert,”?said an event spokesperson.

Used book sale slated

The Friends of Demmer Library will hold a used book sale Saturday, July 26, from 9 a.m. to noon in the lower level of the library, located on West School Street in Three Lakes.

“Our Fourth of July sale was very successful this year,” said Sarah Ewing, president of the Friends of Demmer Library. “The Friends want to thank everyone who supported us by donating or purchasing books at the sale.”

With the exception of June, the book sales are held on the fourth Saturday of each month.

Donations of gently used books (not more that 15 years old), both fiction and nonfiction, are always needed and may be dropped off at the library.

Living History Encounter slated at museum July 26

The Three Lakes Genea­logical Society and Three Lakes Historical Museum will host a Living History Encounter Saturday, July 26, on the grounds of the Three Lakes Historical Museum, located at 1798 Huron St.

The Living History Encounter will feature something for everyone who attends, according to event organizers.
