Wounded Warriors Committee to serve as 2014 parade marshals

The Phelps Chamber of Commerce?recently announced that the Wounded Warriors In Action (WWIA) Committee will serve as the town’s Fourth of July parade marshals.

The Spurgeons and Volds have coordinated the WWIA fundraiser event at Holiday Lodge for the last three years with a three-year total profit of $26,600.

Lions Club’s steak fry set at Wavering Park

The Phelps Lions Club will hold its 18th annual Steak in the Park event at Wavering Park in Phelps Wednesday, July 16.

A steak fry will be served at the park from 5 to 8 p.m. including a cooked-to-order filet mignon, potatoes, salad, roll and dessert for a cost of $17 in advance or $19 at the event.

Live entertainment will be provided by the Bill Hassey Orchestra.

Long Lake group sets annual meeting

The 2014 annual meeting of the Long Lake of Phelps Lake District (LLPLD) will be held Saturday, July 5, at 10:30 a.m. in the Phelps School cafeteria.

Landowners are welcome to attend for updates on the Department of Natural Resources grant, aquatic invasive species, fishery report, 2015 budget, 2015 tax levy and volunteer projects.

Northwoods Living Care sets 17th Picnic in Park

Northwoods Living Care Foundation Inc. will sponsor the 17th annual Picnic in the Park Tuesday, July 8, from 5 to 8:30 p.m. at Wavering Park in Phelps.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the town of Phelps ambulance fund.

The meal will include a chicken and rib barbecue, baked beans, potato salad, fresh fruit and homemade dessert.

Music will be provided by The Hits and a bounce house

Rosner serves as representative for Phelps at Badger Boys State

The Phelps Women’s Club will meet at Big Sand Lake Club Monday, July 21, at 1 p.m.

Festivities set for Fourth

Festivities for the Fourth of July are planned in Phelps Friday, July 4, from 3 to 11 p.m.

The Lions Club Parade will begin at 3 p.m. through downtown Phelps, followed by the Chain Skimmers ski show on North Twin Lake and live music by Popular Girl beginning at 4 p.m.

There will be children’s games and activities, a pie-eating contest and chicken drop contest, along with 50/50 raffles.

Elizabeth Black, 12, of Appleton and Phelps won the logo contest sponsored by Barry and Wendy Mohr of Sweet Treats & More in Phelps with her logo “It’s Doggone Good.” Black designed the logo for the I.C. Sammy treat, winning the first-place prize of an ice cream sandwich every day for the season. Michael Franzen, 13, of Phelps took second and Brandon Aderhold, 10, of Edgerton won third prize.
