Book club
Northern Footnotes Book Club members Lois Bates (right) and Chris Ebert (left) re-enacted the roles of British post-World War I investigator Maisie Dobbs and her wealthy sponsor, Lady Compton, from the book “Maisie Dobbs” by Jacqueline Winespear at a gathering of the club at the Land O’ Lakes Public Library April 8. Bates led a discussion on the expanding role of women at the beginning of the 20th century, and the historical and personal devastation wrought by World War I. The meeting also included discussion and high tea featuring homemade scones and a variety of teas served in china cups brought for the occasion by group member Cora Claypool. The next meeting of the book group will be Tuesday, May 13, at 11 a.m. at the Forest Lake Country Store in Land O’ Lakes. The book “Gone Girl” by Gillian Flynn will be discussed. —Contributed Photo
