Headwaters Art League show scheduled to open Aug. 29

Members of Headwaters Art League (HAL) will hold the annual HAL fine art show and sale at the Gateway Lodge in Land O’ Lakes set Friday, Aug. 29, with an artist’s reception to be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Artworks will be displayed through Wednesday, Sept. 3.

A members-only fine art show and sale show will be held Thursday, Aug. 28, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Gateway.

Members are allowed to show three works of art each,

Garden walk set Aug. 29

The Land O’ Lakes Community Garden will sponsor a garden walk Friday, Aug. 29, from 2:30 to 4  p.m. at the garden, located behind the VFW Hall at 4493 Highway B, a few blocks west of downtown Land O’ Lakes.

The garden opened in 2009, has 48 ground plots and 12 raised beds, and is irrigated by an automatic drip system.

Plots are rented for $35 a season

Ride with Leinie
More than 150 riders joined with Wilderness Lakes Trails and Forest Lake Country Store for a day of biking, brats and beer at Ride with Leinie Saturday, Aug. 9, in Land O’ Lakes. The event included several ride options and a traditional Wisconsin brat lunch and tasting of assorted Leinenkugel’s beers. Dick Leinenkugel led one of the rides and discussed his family history of beer making in Wisconsin with the gathered crowd. Two Trek bikes and a Leinenkugel’s beer picnic package were raffled. Museum to offer free events Aug. 22

The Land O’ Lakes Historical Society and the Land O’ Lakes?NorthernWaters Museum will offer  dual free events as part of the Land O’ Lakes Summer Days of Art program Friday, Aug. 22.

There will be demonstration of wildlife carving by local wood artist and taxidermist Rick Bernier of Land O’?Lakes from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Land O’ Lakes NorthernWaters Museum, located in the Land O’ Lakes Town Park on Highway B in Land O’ Lakes.

Family night
Hope Lutheran Church in Land O’ Lakes hosted Family Fun Night Aug. 4. The event featured a picnic, games and a campfire sing-along. Taste of the Market planned this Thursday

The Land O’ Lakes Chamber of Commerce announced its upcoming events as part of its Summer Days of Art series.

The Land O’ Lakes Farmers Market will hold its first Taste of the Market Thursday, Aug. 14, from 9 a.m. to noon.

The market vendors will offer edible creations from food. Farmers Charlie and Denyse Valentine’s corn will be roasted and offered for sale from 10:45 a.m. to noon to raise money for the Farmers Market Scholarship Fund.

Art exhibit set Aug. 15

Land O’ Lakes Area Artisans Inc. (LOLA) intern Olivia Heitz will exhibit her painting at the LOLA Art Center Friday, Aug. 15, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The artist reception is from 2 to 4 p.m.

Heitz, a fine arts major at Luther College in Iowa, continues to offer classes for youth and adults in August, and remains the art instructor for the Summer Youth Art Program.

Navajo rugs to be displayed

Trading Post Internationale in downtown Land O’ Lakes will offer a free display and discussion on handwoven Navajo rugs from the American Southwest, as part of the Land O’ Lakes Chamber of Commerce-Land O’ Lakes Artisans Summer Days of Art 2014 program  Wednesday, Aug. 13, from 1 to 3 p.m.

Barbara Nehring, a longtime Navajo rug collector, will explain some of the elements of design in both new and old Navajo rugs, and will talk about appropriate care for rugs.

Pantry benefit event
Virgil and Jesse Shauger, along with the Good Ol’ Boys from Conover, recently organized a food and raffle benefit at Club 45 for the Headwaters Food Pantry. Food this year included brats, hot dogs, hamburgers, a variety of salads, desserts and refreshments. There were multiple raffles with prizes furnished by local individuals and businesses.
