Santori holds veterans event

The Land O’ Lakes Veterans of Foreign Wars AMVETS Post 8400 Color Guard Unit kicked off the first day of summer, June 21, by leading The Eagle Has Landed event held by Dr. Gina Santori of Watersmeet, Mich.

Santori’s event was a flag raising and unveiling of a new bald eagle carving by artist Charles Horn of Waters­meet.

Stephens, Bruso to play at farmers market July 10

Fiddler Tess Stephens, accompanied by Chris Bruso on guitar, will perform at the Land O’ Lakes Farmers Market in downtown Land O’ Lakes across from the library Thursday, July 10, from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Stephens has been playing the fiddle since she was 8 years old. She won the Kansas State Fiddling and Picking Championship when she was 15,

Cancer benefit
The Gateway Ladies Golf League held a fundraiser June 18 for the Pink Ribbon Riders, a nonprofit organization that services breast cancer patients in several states, including Wisconsin and Michigan, at the Gateway Golf Club in Land O’ Lakes. Thirty-two women played golf and had a luncheon afterward. A total of $595 was raised for the organization. Many of the women who participated in the outing are cancer survivors. Independence Day celebration to include parade, fireworks

The Land O’ Lakes Chamber of Commerce announced plans for its Independence Day celebration.

The Land O’ Lakes fireworks are set Thursday, July 3, at about 10:15 p.m. at  King’s Land O’ Lakes Airport, where there will be parking spots, food and refreshments.

Friday, July 4, will feature a parade. There is not a theme for the parade this year. The grand marshals are Diane and Pete Schindelholz.

Line-up will be along Oak Street to Highway B,

Dawson’s Pier in Land O’ Lakes ready to open on limited basis

Dawson’s Pier, a restaurant and event center in Land O’ Lakes, will be informally launched Thursday, July 3.

Dawson’s will be open on an informal and limited basis over the July Fourth weekend and on Saturday nights until Aug. 16.

Plans for the Fourth of July weekend will include a traditional cookout Thursday, July 3, and Friday, July 4, with live music both nights.

A local group, Still Kickin’, will perform Thursday at 10 p.m., and a Merrill country group, Broken Arrow, will play Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Saturday, July 5, at 7:30 p.m. the pace changes with Bill Hassey’s Orchestra,

Summer Days of Art series kicks off with balloon event

The Land O’ Lakes Chamber of Commerce announced The Summer Days of Art series is now in full swing.

Thursday, July 3, from 6 to 8 p.m. there will be a balloon animal-making event at the Gateway Lodge in Land O’ Lakes.

Mama Little Hippies will play music that night from 8 p.m. to midnight at the Gateway Lodge.

Taste of Conover
The Conover Chamber of Commerce recently held its eighth annual Taste of Conover event. A record number of people attended the event, which features food   from local restaurants. Lake association sets meeting

The North and South Twin Lake Association will have its annual potluck-picnic meeting on Saturday, July 12, from noon to 3 p.m. at the Conover Community Center.

The event will feature information on the membership association’s summer activities and the Great Headwaters Bike Trails.

Fundraising event
Headwaters State Bank in Land O’ Lakes partially underwrote the “Walk On The Wild Side” fundraising event for the Land O’ Lakes NorthernWaters Museum held July 19 at the Pearson home in the Ottawa National Forest. The event included a tour of the home featuring various North American animal mounts, pontoon boat rides, utility vehicle rides on trails, food, refreshments, historical information and an introduction to five-stand sporting clays. Cookout, bake sale set at Club 45

There will be a Summer Kickoff Cookout and Bake Sale to benefit Headwaters Food Pantry in Land O’ Lakes Saturday, June 28, at 1 p.m. at Club 45 in Conover.

The event will include  a collection of nonperishable food items for donation and raffles.
