Art exhibit reception features student work
The fifth annual youth art exhibit reception was held March 15 in the Artistree Gallery at the Land O’ Lakes Area Artisans Center for the Arts. Land O’ Lakes Area Artisans Inc. (LOLA) and Artistree Gallery hosted the fifth annual youth art exhibit reception March 15. The theme for this year’s exhibit was “Art for All Seasons.”

More than 100 people, including  student artists, parents, friends, grandparents and gallery customers attended the afternoon reception.

Kids Fisheree
The Conover Lions Club recently held its Kids Fisheree on Denton Lake in Conover. According to Lions Club co-chairmen Ron Feckett and Lenny Johnson, 45 children and their families participated. The largest crappie was caught by 3-year-old Adrienne Trollan. Her fish measured 10 inches. Parker Trollan caught the largest bluegill measuring 73?4 inches. A 71?4-inch perch was caught by Dylan Keuffer. Adrienne Trollan’s catch was the largest overall fish and will be mounted courtesy of Lax Taxidermy. The event was hosted by Club 45 Sports Bar and Grill. Bait and predrilled holes were provided by Northern Waters Angling and Archery. Youth art-exhibit reception planned Saturday, March 15

Land O’ Lakes Area Artisans Inc. (LOLA) and Artistree Gallery will host the fifth annual youth art exhibit reception Saturday, March 15, from 1-4 p.m. at the LOLA Center for the Arts. This year’s theme is “Art for All Seasons.”

Approximately 100 pieces of artwork from Land O’ Lakes Elementary School students and area home-schooled students in grades kindergarten through fifth will be on display during the reception.

The exhibit continues Wednesdays through Saturdays,

Historical society to meet March 13

The Land O’ Lakes Historical Society will meet Thursday, March 13, at 10 a.m. at the Land O’ Lakes Town Hall.

On the agenda will be the replacement of the furnace in the Land O’ Lakes Northern Waters Museum, expanding the current guides exhibit into the history of hunting, trapping and taxidermy, and reprinting of the Land O’ Lakes pictorial history book by Jon Helminak.

Great Northern Jerk-Off celebrates 20th anniversary with 38 entries

Club 45 in Conover was full to the brim Feb. 15 for the 20th anniversary of the Great Northern Jerk-Off. The event raised $1,000 for Warm The Children.

There were 25 participants who provided 38 jerky entries trying to win the title of the Best Homemade Jerky in the North.

After an hour of judging, the winners of the 20th annual Great Northern Jerk-Off were presented with their awards.

First place, after a tie-breaking revote, went to Cathy Watkins

Kids Fisheree set March 9

The Conover Lions Club will hold its annual Kids Fisheree Sunday, March 9, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Denton Lake on Old Highway 45.

Predrilled holes and some fishing equipment will be provided by Northern Waters Angling and Archery.

The event will be for children ages preschool to 14 years old. Preregistration is required.

Olympic Day
Land O’ Lakes Elementary School along with the SOAR Charter school recently celebrated the Winter Olympics with a Olympic Day of their own. The event was coordinated by Shelley Peterson. The day began with opening ceremonies. Each class represented a country and participated by walking in to the Olympic fanfare music. Students and staff then had the chance to play adaptations of games such as bobsled, luge, cross-country skiing, giant slalom and speed skating. Blizzard Blast
The first Blizzard Blast was held in Conover Town Park last Sunday. The all-day event included curling, snowshoe baseball, recliner races, a snow sculpture competition, children’s activites and more.
