Blizzard Blast
The first Blizzard Blast was held in Conover Town Park last Sunday. The all-day event included curling, snowshoe baseball, recliner races, a snow sculpture competition, children’s activites and more. Land O’ Lakes was bustling with activity  last weekend for the Three Bear Sled Dog Races Saturday and Sunday, and the Winter Festival Craft Show and Flea Market Saturday in the school. The Conover Lions Club hosted a community blood drive recently at the Conover Center. Blood donated at these drives is supplied to five Ministry hospitals in the area and the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Iron River, Mich. Conover holds four blood drives a year. Kids Fisheree slated March 9

The Conover Lions Club will hold its annual Kids Fisheree Sunday, March 9, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Denton Lake on Old Highway 45. 
Predrilled holes and some fishing equipment will be provided by Northern Waters Angling and Archery.
The event is for children ages preschool to 14 years old. Preregistration is required.

Blood drive set Feb. 18

A community blood drive, hosted by the VFW Auxiliary, will be held in Land O’ Lakes Tuesday, Feb. 18, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Fire Barn, located at 4773 Highway B.
According to Jan Hadsell of the Community Blood Center, actual blood donation will take less than 15 minutes, and the entire process takes under an hour.
“Most of us would give an hour of time to help our spouse or child heal, and we are asking people to donate so that another family can benefit from the gift of a blood transfusion,” said  Hadsell.

Trash, recycling facility relocates in Conover

The new Conover Trash and Recycling Facility, located  behind the fire station at 4661 Highway K East, is now open. Hours of operation for the winter months are Wednesdays and Sundays, from 1 to 4 p.m.

Blue punch cards will no longer be accepted. The new yellow card is available at the town clerk’s office. Any punches that are still on the old card will be credited to the new card. At this time, the clerk’s office will also be open Wednesdays and Sundays, from 1:15 to 4 p.m. to convert to the new card.
