Eagle River man bound over
for delivering money to inmate

A 19-year-old Eagle River man, charged with delivery of illegal articles to an inmate and obstructing an officer, was bound over after probable cause was found he had committed a crime in Vilas County Circuit Court last week.

Joseph R. Johnson pleaded not guilty and a pretrial conference was set for Aug. 19 at 10:45 a.m.

According to the complaint, Johnson allegedly gave money to Todd Brecht between Sept. 23, 2013, and Oct. 1, 2013, while Brecht was inmate at Camp McNaughton and working at the St. Germain Golf Course.

Rhinelander man pleads not guilty
for allegedly taking money from safe

An 18-year-old Rhine­lander man, charged with misdemeanor theft, burglary of a building or dwelling and theft of moveable property, pleaded not guilty in Vilas County Circuit Court last week.

Mathew S. Johnson, who was not present for his preliminary hearing at 9 a.m. June 23, showed up later in the day and a warrant for his arrest was quashed.

Vilas Circuit Judge Neal A. Nielsen III set a pretrial conference for July 22 at 9:45 a.m.

Five arrested in May drug raid
make appearances, face felonies

Five persons taken into custody in a drug raid at a residence east of Eagle River May 19 and charged with felonies made appearances in Vilas County Circuit Court during the past week.

James Mahar Jr., 19, of Conover, had a preliminary hearing called off after the court was told the officer scheduled to testify was not present.

Mahar faces four Class I felony and two Class H felony counts. Each Class I count carries a maximum fine of $10,000 and maximum prison of three years. Each Class H counts maximum fine is the same with a maximum six-year prison term. Four of the felonies are
