Jays baseball team defeats Elcho, ends season with Regional loss

The Three Lakes Bluejays baseball team defeated Elcho 12-5 last Tuesday in the first round of WIAA Division 4 Regionals before falling 9-7 to Florence Wednesday.

Three Lakes came out on top against Elcho thanks to a strong pitching performance from senior Mike LoGalbo, who struck out eight Elcho hitters through six innings giving up four runs.

Lorbetske named NLC’s softball Player of Year

Four other Jays
earn first-team

Maddie Lorbetske of the Three Lakes Lady Jays was named Player of the Year in the Northern Lakes Conference (NLC), while teammates Abbie Baumann, Abby Zielke, Maddie Sowinski and Lauren Sowinski all made the first team.

Lorbetske, a junior at Three Lakes High School, led the NLC for pitching with 66 strikeouts and an earned run average of 0.54. She gave up only 21 hits on the season.

Northwoods United Way plans annual golf scramble

The Northwoods United Way will hold its annual golf scramble Saturday, June 21, at St. Germain Golf Club and the 19th Hole Family Sports Bar & Grill in St. Germain.

Participants will have two golfing choices to support one good cause.

Golf spectacular
The annual Angel On My Shoulder Golf Spectacular was held Friday at the St. Germain Golf Club. A total of 186 golfers gathered for the start of the event. Three Lakes girls end soccer season

The Three Lakes Lady Jays soccer team defeated Newman Catholic 2-0 last Thursday in the first round of WIAA Regional playoffs before losing to Saint Mary’s Central 2-0 Saturday at the championship to end the season.

The Bluejays also defeated Ironwood, Mich., 4-0 last Monday and Bayfield-Washburn 3-2 Tuesday.

The girls had a tough game against Newman, but came out ahead, according to Three Lakes coach Stacy Stroud.

“We managed to hang on for the win,”
