Brain aging workshop slated Wednesday, Sept. 3

“The Aging Brain or Where Did I Park My Car?”   a workshop for seniors and others who will be aging in the future, will be held Wednesday, Sept. 3, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the Community Wellness Center at Northland Pines High School.

The workshop will be presented by Dr. Lou Whitaker, a national presenter on brain compatible teaching and learning with 25 years experience in education.

Wheel-A-Way slated Aug. 30

The Three Lakes Chamber of Commerce and Welcome Center will hold its 23rd annual Nicolet Wheel-A-Way family bicycle ride Saturday, Aug. 30, attracting as many as 400 riders.

Registration for the 18- or 36-mile bike tour through the scenic Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest will take place between 7:30 and 9 a.m. at Don Burnside Park off Highway A in Three Lakes.

Riders will receive a complete lunch with refreshments at the Franklin Lake picnic area. Registered riders also will receive a T-shirt and a chance to win door prizes. The cost is $40 for an individual and $75 for a family (two adults and two children).

The ride will begin at 9:20 a.m.

Starke attends Aviation Challenge

Pines Community Wellness Center to host Strong Women Program

The Pines Community Wellness Center will offer the Strong Women program — a 10-week exercise program for middle-aged and older women — Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. to noon in the exercise room located in the Wellness Center of Northland Pines High School. The series will begin Tuesday, Sept. 16, and run through Nov. 20.

Each class will include progressive weight training, flexibility and balance activities. The cost of the program will be $40 for the 10-week session.

Bailey Ramesh of Land O’ Lakes named to National scholars society

The National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS) announced that Northland Pines High School student Bailey Ramesh of Land O’ Lakes has been selected to become a member of the organization.

The society recognizes top scholars who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, scholarship and community commitment.
