Benefit dinner set April 12

There will be a spaghetti benefit for Crystal Beth Lemmons at BBT’s, located at 207 E. Wall St. in downtown Eagle River, Saturday, April 12, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Lemmons, 24, was diagnosed with terminal bladder cancer in February 2014. She does not have health insurance. All proceeds will go to help with her doctor and hospital bills. The cost for the dinner will be $7.99.

Salad luncheon, card party set April 12 at Kalmar

Senior Eagle River Volunteer Enterprise (SERVE) will host its third annual Salad Luncheon and Card Party at the Kalmar Senior Community Center in Eagle River Saturday, April 12, from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

“If you play cards or board games, take a group or come alone. Everyone is welcome,” said a SERVE spokesperson.

A variety of salads will be served for the luncheon, with dessert and coffee to follow.

Master Gardeners slate talk

The Vilas County Master Gardeners will host a free presentation on irrigation and propagation Thursday, April 10, at 7 p.m. at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, located at 5030 Highway 70 W. in Eagle River.

D. Bert Saal of CCL Landscaping in Rhinelander will discuss seeding, cuttings (both hardwood and softwood), layering, divisions and grafting of plants and trees, and the different types of irrigation products available.

Needs Ministry Pantry gets clothing donation from school
The Northland Pines School District recently donated more than a dozen large contractor bags of clothing to the Needs Ministry Pantry in Eagle River. The elementary school Parent Teacher Organization and middle school Parent Teacher Student Organization recently held a clothing drive and giveaway at the school and decided to donate the leftover goods to the pantry. Those seeking the familiar generosity and benevolence of the North Woods need look no further than the Northwoods Share Needs Ministry Pantry, located at The Rock at 1019 Wall St. near Trig’s in Eagle River.

The establishment — which currently houses the three charities Northwoods Share, Sunshine for Humanity and the Salvation Army — has built a foundation on the idea of paying it forward.

Area Boy Scouts seeking food thru bag project

Boy Scouts of American announced that scouts from all over the northcentral Wisconsin Samoset Council District, which includes Eagle River, Land O’ Lakes, Phelps, St. Germain and Three Lakes, will leave a white bag at residences Saturday, April 5, as part of the Scouting for Food Community Service Project.

The scouts ask that contributions of non-perishable food, personal care and household items be placed in the bag and placed out for collection by the scouts before Saturday, April 12, at 9 a.m.

All donated items will be delivered to food pantries
