Outdoor series set at Nicolet

Nicolet College announced the launch of its 2014 Outdoor Adventure Series. which will run through the fall.

A class on how to perform the Eskimo roll in a kayak, will take place Saturday, April 5, from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Lakeland Union High School pool.

A course on core strengthening for standup paddleboarding is set Saturday, April 5 and 12, from 9 a.m. to noon in the Lakeland Union pool.

Each course is $99,

Skating club announces guest skaters for show

The Eagle River Figure Skating Club (ERFSC) announced that this year’s guest skaters at its 2014 Silver Blades Ice Show “Silver Blades Music Awards,” are junior pairs team of Olivia Oltmanns and Josh Santillan.

The event will take place at the Eagle River Ice Arena Saturday, April 12, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., and Sunday, April 13, at 2 p.m.

Olivia Oltmanns and Josh Santillan came together in 2009 to compete at the novice level at the 2010 U.S. Figure Skating Championships.

Students at Northland Pines Middle School (NPMS) joined thousands of young people nationwide to stand up against tobacco for the 19th annual Kick Butts Day held March 19. More than 1,400 events were planned across the nation.

NPMS?students?broadcast public service an­nounce­ments they created over the last months in their seventh-grade health classes.

Homeroom?classrooms competed in a poster contest to educate their peers about the dangers of smoking, secondhand smoke and smokeless tobacco products.

Pines forensics team advances to State

The Northland Pines High School (NPHS) forensics team, made up of eight students, will compete at the State competition held at UW-Madison Friday and Saturday, April 11 and 12.

Team members advancing to state include Alex Falcetta and Dominique Acuna Barrientos, both in four-minute speaking; Katie Piper in poetry; Benn Gober in solo acting; and Hannah Tilley, Ashley Gardner, Nathan Lofy and Hunter Kiesow in play acting.
