DQ Charity Treat Day scheduled Thursday

Dairy Queen (DQ) Eagle River will host its third annual Charity Treat Day in which $2 from every Blizzard® Treat sold, including all sizes, will be donated to the Northwoods Children’s Museum (NCM) Thursday, Aug. 14.

NCM staff and youth volunteers will be at DQ from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. doing free glitter tattoos and face painting for all the children.

“We’re making the day even more fun by offering something extra for the children,” said Dan Anderson, owner and operator of DQ. “I hear they’re offering a DQ tat and I may just have to get one for myself.”

The donations will help low-income families attend

Blues Fest
Joe Bucher's Blues Fest was recently  held at the St. Germain Community Center Pavilion, raising funds for youth sports organizations. The event featured  blues/rock music, Southern-style barbecue, raffle prizes and a silent auction featuring sports memorabilia and custom-made crafts. The biggest local benefactor was the Northland Pines Youth Football & Cheerleading Organization. Sunshine for Humanity sets opening

Sunshine for Humanity of Eagle River, located at 227 S. Seventh St., will hold its grand opening and first fundraiser Saturday, Aug. 16, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

There will be food, games, car and 50/50 raffles, a dunk tank, a bake sale, crafts and flea market, and more.

“We believe in neighbors helping neighbors. Our neighbors donate good-to-better-condition?household items and furniture which Sunshine displays in its store so our customers can shop for items they need or want for free,” said Genie Ramage, public relations director

Vilas Master Gardeners schedule workshop Thursday

The Vilas County Master Gardeners (VCMG) will hold its monthly meeting Thursday, Aug. 14, at 6 p.m. at Custom Landscaping in Eagle River. There will be a workshop on hypertufa planters at 6:30 p.m. The public is welcome to attend both the meeting and workshop.

Hypertufa, an artificial stone made from a few simple ingredients, is used to create planting containers and garden art.
