Registration now open for annual World Championship Musky Classic

Registration is now open for the 38th annual World Championship Musky Classic (WCMC) fishing tournament slated Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 5-7.
This fishing tournament is supported and sponsored by the Presque Isle, Boulder Junction, Manitowish Waters and Winchester communities.
Each community has a designated number of lakes that are available for the tournament, which is open to all anglers of all ages. Clubs and teams also are welcome.

Deadline is Aug. 1 for fall turkey, Canada geese, bobcat and wolf tags

A key deadline for many hunters, trappers and spearers in Wisconsin is fast approaching.

Those planning to participate in fall turkey, Canada geese, bobcat, fisher, otter, wolf or Upriver Lakes sturgeon seasons must have their permit applications submitted by noon Aug. 1.

Guides/Kids Day attracts 38 youths, 18 guides

The Eagle River Area Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Center, along with the Eagle River Guides Association, held its 34th annual Guides/Kids Fishing Day last Thursday at the Vilas County Fairgrounds in Eagle River.

A total of 18 guides took 31 youths ages seven to 12 fishing on an area lake, according to Kim Emerson, executive director of the chamber.

Trapper convention set at U.P. State Fairground

Expert trappers from around the country will give 25 trapping demonstrations and one predator calling demo at the National Trappers Association (NTA) Convention at the U.P. State Fairground in Escanaba, Mich., July 24-27.

Speakers will be on hand to share their methods, tips and secrets with novice and veteran trappers. This convention is an opportunity to visit in person with some of the most well-known trappers in the outdoor arena.
