Paul Kemppainen and Bill Reckling, both members of the Phelps-Land O’ Lakes Lions Club picked up a donation of used prescription glasses from Lac Vieux Desert Health Center’s (LDVHC) optical department April 10.

The glasses will become part of the Lions program which recycles used prescription glasses. This program connects donated eyeglasses, at only 8 cents per pair, to those who don’t have access to or can’t afford eye exams or prescription glasses. In the past, eyeglasses have been donated to those in need in the Dominican Republic, Mexico and Nicaragua, just to name a few.

According to the LVDHC, 153 million people around the world are in need of prescription glasses.

“The Lac Vieux Desert Health Center’s optical department is proud to offer support for such a great cause and to help gather donations for the local Lions Club,” said Andee Siler of the LVDHC.

In addition to the eye glass collection, the LVDHC also collects hearing aids. Donations are accepted at any Lions Club as well as in the optical department of LVDHC.
