Kalmar Community Center, owned by Senior Eagle River Volunteer Enterprise Inc. (SERVE), lost its building to a roof collapse due to a heavy snow load Sunday, Feb. 24, during a 16-inch snowfall.

SERVE President Suzanne Millies issued the following statement last week: “The SERVE board has been working with the insurance company and contractors to assess the damage and plan for clean-up of the site and preparations to rebuild.”

With the help of the community, Millies said all activities that were held at the Kalmar Community Center site have now been relocated to the following locations until further notice:

• Badger Bridge will meet Mondays from 12:30 to 4 p.m. at First Congregational United Church of Christ, located at the corner of Division and First streets in Eagle River. Contact Ed at (715) 362-8933 or Bob at (414) 758-6411.

• Kalmar Cribbage will meet Mondays at 1 p.m. at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, 418 W. Pine St., Eagle River. Contact Don at (715) 337-2265.

• Kalmar Card Party will meet Wednesdays from 12:30 to 3 p.m. at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 5030 Highway 70 W., Eagle River. Contact Janet at (715) 542-3685.

• Northwoods Woodcarvers will meet Wednesdays from noon to 2:30 p.m. at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, 5001 Highway G, Eagle River. Contact John at (715) 479-6093.

• Kalmar Quilters will meet Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to noon at Walter E. Olson Memorial Library, 203 N. Main St., Eagle River. Contact Pat at (715) 617-2398.

The Vilas Food Pantry is still in operation at its current site next to the Kalmar Community Center.

“We want to express our thanks to the organizations that have offered space for us during this time,” said Millies. “As things progress, we will update any information we have available for you. The public is invited to join us for any of the above activities.”
