The Vilas County Register of Deeds office officially recorded its 600,000th document on March 3.

The document was submitted by Vilas Title Service Inc. of Eagle River, and Register of Deeds office staff presented them with a certificate to honor the occasion.

The Register of Deeds office is staffed by Kathy Clure as deputy; Courtney Szuta, Real Estate and Vital Records clerk; Anne Marshall, Real Estate/Imaging tech; and Sherry Bierman, Vilas County Register of Deeds.

“This wonderful team works together to ensure the accuracy of the recorded documents and vital records this office is constitutionally responsible for,” Bierman said.

Approaching its 130th anniversary, Vilas became a county on April 12, 1893. Bierman noted the Register of Deeds office is the cornerstone of the Land Records Industry and produces accurate and precise information for the end users.

“In 2022, the office recorded 8,603 documents and produced 3,143 Vital Records — birth, death, marriage and divorce certificates,” she added.

The Register of Deeds is located in the Vilas County Courthouse at 330 Court St. in Eagle River and can be reached by calling 715-479-3660.
