Alyssa Imse, an eighth-grade Northland Pines SOAR Charter Middle School student in Eagle River, recently won an Illustrator Award at the State level for the Delta Kappa Gamma Writing Contest. 

She also was awarded first place for her book in the SOAR eighth-grade class as well as first place at the Alpha Eta Chapter regional level. 

The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International is a professional honor society of top women educators from around the world promoting excellence in education.

Sigma State, Wisconsin, has sponsored the Mary Jo Nettesheim Memorial Literary Competition for more than 30 years. The competition encourages students in grades three through eight to write and illustrate an original fiction book. Books are then judged on their originality and creativity, as well as presentation, spelling and grammar.
