A series of holiday events are planned in the Eagle River area in the coming weeks.

To encourage shopping local, area stores will kick off the holiday season with specials on merchandise during Small Business Saturday, Nov. 27. To find out more about special offers available, shoppers are urged to visit their favorite local stores and restaurants.

“Many stores will be offering great deals on Small Business Saturday,” said Kim Emerson, executive director of the Eagle River Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center. “Horse wagon rides through downtown will also be available for your enjoyment.

“Remember, when you shop local you are not only supporting the local business, but you are supporting the local economy. For every $100 spent at a local business, $68 stays in our local economy,” said Emerson.

The Eagle River Area Chamber of Commerce Downtown Committee in conjunction with the Eagle River Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8637 invite the public to come visit with Santa at the Christmas Kick-Off Saturday, Dec. 4, from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at Riverview Park, located across the street from the Eagle River chamber office.

Children will have the opportunity to share their Christmas wishes with Santa Claus and take horse-drawn sleigh rides during the event. Hot dogs, brats, cookies and hot cocoa will be available.

Attendees can take in the Christmas lights at 5 p.m. when Barb Leveille, Eagle River’s Woman of the Year, lights the 2021 Eagle River Christmas tree. While enjoying all the festivities in the park, guests can also listen to the Northland Pines Madrigal Singers perform carols while warming around the campfire.

Shoppers can finish up their last minute gift buying during Mistletoe Magic, planned Saturday, Dec. 11, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at participating Eagle River businesses.

Many of the shops in Eagle River will offer special deals and shoppers can register to win a special gift in each participating store.

Area businesses taking part in this year’s Mistletoe Magic event include Fredrick’s Corner Shoppe, Salon & Spa on Railroad, The Hiker Box, WalkAbout Paddle & Apparel, Lehner-Stephan Jewelers, Wall Street Hometown Pharmacy, Rustic Allure, Northwoods Children’s Museum, Up North Cigars & Gallery, Vintage Garden Studio and The Craftsman American Tavern, all in Eagle River, and Old World Charm B&B Gift Shop in Phelps.
