The Northwoods Branch of the Wisconsin Flying Hamburger Social is getting ready for summer flying season with socials planned at airports across the North.

Starting Thursday, May 27, socials will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at that week’s host airport, which will  provide everything needed for an informal dinner of hamburgers (or similar) and other summer fixings.

Pilots can grill the meat themselves on the grill while drawing aviation-minded people to the airport, get local pilots flying, provide fellowship with friends, and meet people from other area airports. Donations are encouraged.

Held Thursdays, the first social of the season will kick off May 27 at the airport in Lake Tomahawk.

Events also are scheduled June 3 in Ironwood, Mich., June 10 in Prentice, June 17 in Lakeland/Arbor Vitae and June 24 in Crandon.

Then, July 1, the Three Lakes Airport will host a social followed by July 8 in Rhinelander, July 15 in Boulder Junction, July 22 in Eagle River, Aug. 5 in Land O’ Lakes, Aug. 12 in Phillips, and Aug. 19 in Tomahawk. The final social of the season is scheduled Aug. 26 in Manitowish Waters.

Also planned is the Oshkosh AirVenture, the world’s biggest aviation social, from Monday, July 26 through Sunday, Aug. 1.

2021 marks the ninth year of the Wisconsin Flying Hamburger Social and the sixth year it has gone multi-state. The Northwoods branch was founded in 2013.
