Spots are still open to join the 15th annual Callie Rohr Memorial Canoe and Kayak Race scheduled for Saturday, June 22, in Conover to support education and research to cure pediatric brain cancer. 

Current water levels are good for the 14-mile, one-day canoe and kayak race on the historic headwaters of the Wisconsin River. This stream, offering lots of challenging turns and obstacles, makes for an exciting and challenging race on the river. All paddlers will start at the Rohr’s Wilderness Tours boat landing and paddle to different take-out points.

Registration begins at 7:30 a.m., followed by the Conover Lions Club breakfast including crepes, eggs, sausage and more. 

Boat launchings will begin at 10 a.m. Depending on level of skill or distance paddled, the numerous race categories are able to accommodate the novice to the professional racer.

Spectators are welcome to watch as the racers launch and at various spotting locations near the road or under a bridge. There will also be numerous activities at Rohr’s Wilderness Tours to pass the time, including hiking, horseshoe pits and volleyball. Kayaks and canoes are also available to rent. Life preservers are mandatory. Shuttle service is available.

Volunteers are still needed to help with parking, meal prep, spotting and photography. 

Lunch will be served at noon at Rohr Wilderness Tours and at River Road. All racers, volunteers and spectators are invited to the Party Pavilion at 5 p.m. to take part in the pig roast, music, refreshments, awards and a live auction. 

Everyone is encouraged to support this worthwhile cause while having a blast and bringing awareness of the battle to find a cure for pediatric brain cancer. 

Over the past 14 years, events to benefit the Callie Rohr Foundation have raised more than $172,000 for pediatric brain cancer research.
