Land O’ Lakes Arts (LOLA) will host its third annual Make Music Day celebration throughout the town Sunday, June 21.
Make Music Land O’ Lakes is a free musical celebration open to the public, with performances outside local establishments around Land O’ Lakes beginning at 11 a.m.
Musicians will include Eclectic Duo and Friends, Katlyn Koester, Beth Hassler, Jonathan Franke and more. Spectators can drive, bike or walk to each location to stop and listen, but are asked to adhere to social distancing practices.
In addition to the mini music crawl around town, there also will be the traveling band, Decade XS, cruising up and down the streets, as well as car park performances from the Electric String Band at 1 p.m. at the Snowflake Ice Rink. The day’s headliner, Bob Allen of the Allen Brothers Band, will perform at 4 p.m. The day will finish off with a musical pontoon parade and sing-along on Black Oak Lake beach at 6 p.m.
“This year, more than ever, music has helped us to get through this difficult time. These musicians are dedicating their time to keep spreading the joy of music by playing live outside. To keep with social distancing, we have gotten creative with ways people can enjoy this day. So drive up to listen and clap loudly for these talented and giving artists,” said LOLA Program Director Wendy Powalisz.
“With the challenges of COVID-19, this year’s event makes for a great opportunity to help lift our community’s spirit, tying into LOLA’s outlook for summer with its Art of Wellness art classes,” added Powalisz. “All activities must integrate social distancing practices and other safety measures recommended by the state of Wisconsin at the time of the event. Watch for more details on Make Music Day Land O’ Lakes on LOLA’s website and their social media as they adapt to changing protocols.”
Make Music Day, launched in 1982 in France as the Fe^te de la Musique, is now held on the same day in more than 1,000 cities in 120 countries. As a member of the Make Music Alliance, LOLA is one of the thousands of cities worldwide celebrating this day with musical activities.
