Arlene (Piepmeyer) Akerlund, age 90, formerly of Eagle River, Wis., and Ontona­gon, Mich., passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2020, in Cedarburg, Wis.

Arlene was born in Racine, Wis., the fourth of five children born to Edward and Emma (Luedtke) Piepmeyer.

On Sept. 26, 1953, she married Robert Aker­lund and the couple moved north to Eagle River where they raised their three children and she did volunteer work.

After Bob’s retirement, they relocated to Ontonagon, and enjoyed the outdoors near Lake Superior and gatherings with friends and family.

Recent years were spent in assisted living in Cedarburg, Wis., near son, Scott, and his family. 

Arlene was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Jeffrey; and siblings, LaVerne, Edward H. and Eugene.

Surviving are her sister, Judith (Roger) Berger of Beaver Creek, Ohio; her children,  Scott (Patty) Akerlund of Grafton, Wis., and Susan (Jeff) Watts of Mattawan, Mich.; grandchildren, Beth (Joel) Ja­go­din­sky of Cedarburg, Laura (Peter) Kruesel of Thiensville, Wis.,  Kari Watts (Seth) VanHeukelom of Mackinaw, Ill., and Kyle Watts of Denver, Colo.; great-grandchildren, Elijah Jagodinsky and Corinne and Noah VanHeukelom; and nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank everyone at Harrison House in Cedarburg for the great care and companionship they provided to Arlene.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. Burial will take place in Ontonagon.
