Connie L. Coccia of Phelps died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2021 following a long battle with rheumatoid arthritis. She was 80.

She was born Dec. 10, 1941, to Mr. and Mrs. Keith Forcum.

She graduated from Delund Weldon High School, and attended Elkhart University before working in a variety of positions with the state of Illinois, including as long-time secretary to U.S. Sen. Alan D. Dixon of Illinois.

She married Justice Michel A. Coccia on Sept. 17, 1988.

They retired to Phelps where Mrs. Coccia belonged to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Phelps Women’s Club, Phelps Historical Society, and served on the board of the Northwoods Living Care Foundation.

Mrs. Coccia was preceded in death by her husband, Michel; and her parents.

She is survived by a sister-in law, nieces and nephews, 3 stepsons, 4 step-grandsons, and dear friends to whom she remained devoted.

Services will be held in the summer.

Memorials may be sent to the Northwoods Living Care Foundation, The Phelps Library, or The Northwoods Animal Shelter in Iron River, Mich. in Mrs. Coccia’s name.
