David L. Cox, 81, of Galesburg, Ill., died peacefully at home on Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2022.

David was born June 23, 1941, in Frederic, Wis., the son of Paul E. and Alberta E. (Belisle) Cox.

He married Marjorie Irene Raymond on Aug. 24, 1963, at St. Andrews Church in Rock Falls, Ill.

Marjorie preceded him in death on April 18, 2004.

David worked in a hospital where he apprenticed into respiratory therapy. His career lasted over 35 years working at numerous different hospitals including St. Anthony’s Hospital in Rock Island, Ill., Katherine Shaw Bethe Hospital in Dixon, Ill., Rockford Memorial Hospital in Rockford, Ill., and hospitals in Ashland, Wis., and Eagle River, Wis. He retired in 1988.

Being born in Wisconsin, David was a die-hard Green Bay Packers fan. He enjoyed watching wildlife, especially deer and birds. He also looked forward to going to Friday night fish frys, drinking a good toddy, and in his later years, watching “judge” shows on television.

He is survived by two sons, David L. (Julie) Cox of Woodstock, Ill., and Charles R. (Michelle) Cox of Galesburg; two daughters, Sandra B. (Bill) Carson of Muskegon, Mich., and Krista L. (Bobby) Winters of Galesburg; 18 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Along with his parents and wife, David was predeceased by one son, Scott K. Cox on April 9, 2010; four sisters; and four brothers.

Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 7, 2022, at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Deacon Michael Crummer officiated. Burial followed at St. Joseph Cemetery, Galesburg.
