Eleanor “Ellie” Lapp, age 84, a resident of Phelps, Wis., died on Friday, Nov. 27, 2020, at the Iron River Care Center.

She was born Jan. 7, 1936, in Wausau, Wis., to parents, Gustav and Bertha Schram.

She married the love of her life, Dick Lapp, on June 11, 1955, at St. John’s in Phelps.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Sonny; and husband, Dick, in 2017.

She is survived by her son, Rick (Nancy) of Iron River, Mich.; grandchildren, Randy and Ivy; and many nieces and nephews.

Eleanor graduated from Stevens Point with a primary teaching certificate in 1955, and continued her education to receive a bachelor’s degree in 1967.

She taught first grade or a combination of first and second for 42 years in Phelps.

Ellie authored several children’s books, among them, “Hey Elephant,” which was a Junior Literary Guild selection.

Ellie and her husband owned and operated Lapps Modern Cabins on Lac Vieux Desert for 20 years before moving to their dream home on Potfish Lake. While at Potfish Lake, Eleanor pursued her interests in gardening, dried flower arrangements and rug hooking.

She was a member of the Headwaters Art League, and the Land O’ Lakes Area Arts.

In her later years she entertained deer and sandhill cranes in her yard, watching sunsets from the deck overlooking the lake.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Iron River Care Center for their help during these trying times.

A summer memorial is planned and will be announced at a later date.
