John W. “Jack” Chopin, age 83, died on Saturday, Dec. 18, 2021, at Aspirus Eagle River Hospital in Eagle River, Wis.

He was born a few minutes after his twin sister, Judy, on Jan. 7, 1938, in Appleton, Wis.

Jack grew up enjoying football, fishing, golfing and later a love for flying his Beechcraft Duke.

After graduating high school in Greenwich, Conn., Jack attended Valparaiso University in Indiana.

He started in the paper industry and went on to own his own paper business.

He was heavily awarded for his accomplishments. Jack had a strong belief in our Lord and Savior.

On Aug. 8, 1991, he married the love of his life, Diana, and they created a wonderful life together in the desert of California and later in Eagle River.

Jack was known for his ready sense of humor and ability to affirm the good qualities in others.

Jack leaves behind his beloved wife, Diana; siblings, twin sister, Judy Dorchester, Tim Chopin and Mary (Bruce) Catterton; children who he loved, Sarah Jackson (Emily and Kate), Scott Chopin (Danielle), Michael Chopin (Christina and Corrine), Andrew Chopin (Victoria and Noah), and Mark (Beth) Hansen; grandchildren, Courtney, Hannah, Holly and Hunter; great-grandchildren, Clove and Vernon.

He will be sadly missed by his fur angel, Molly.

As his flying friends group Q.B. (Quiet Birds) said, “We are all richer for having known Jack.”

Services will be held at a later date.

The family would appreciate donations to Hope Lutheran Church or to the Vilas County Humane Society “Jack’s Fur Angels.”
