Lawrence Emmett  “Larry” Klessig was born in Manitowoc, Wis., on July 5, 1941, to Emmett and Caroline Kles­sig. He died Jan. 18, 2020, at home of heart failure, his family and his dog by his side.  Larry was 79. 

When Larry was 4 his family moved to Eagle River, Wis., and operated Loafer’s Hallow Resort on Pickerel Lake. Larry loved the woods and when he graduated from Eagle River High School (class of 1959), he went into logging with his father. 

On Sept. 25, 1965, he married his wife, Susan (Holmes).  They were married 54 years and had five sons, Daniel (Shelli) Klessig, David (Tracy) Klessig, Matthew (Kelli) Klessig, Wade (Beth) Klessig and John Klessig.

He retired in 2011, giving his business to his sons (Klessig Tree Service), but stayed on to give his sons advice. 

Larry enjoyed hunting, fishing, and his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, John; and his grandson, Emmett Klessig.

He is survived by his wife, Susan Klessig; his four sons and their wives; 11 grandchildren, Megan, Kirsten, Dakota, Jeb, Jack, August, Jakob, Joe, Kayla, Mary Beth and Grace; five great-grandchildren, Mason, Mia, Nora, Luke and Leo; brothers, Robert (Marge) Klessig of Manitowoc, and Chris (Rayna) Klessig of Eagle River; sisters, Pat (Ken) Fox of Eagle River, and Barbie Brinson of Denver, Colo.; as well as many friends and a slew of relatives.

A memorial service will be at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2020, at Gaffney-Busha Funeral Home in Eagle River. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the hour of service.
