Lawrence “Larry” “Sparky” Oberg, age 72, died on Sunday, Feb. 7, 2021, at his home.

He was born in Oakland, Calif., on July 5, 1948, to Harold and Alleyne Oberg. 

Larry served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was in the 3rd Squadron, 4th U.S. Cavalry Regiment.

Larry worked as a postal employee for 32 years in Sacramento, Calif., and drove a school bus in Missouri for the Rockwood School District for eight years. 

Larry deeply loved God, his wife and family. He was kind, goofy and a friend to everyone. He loved to laugh and make everyone around him laugh and have a good time.

He was a member of the VFW Post 8637.

Larry married Sharon “Sparkette” on Oct. 13, 1991.  They retired to Eagle River, Wis., in 2016. 

Larry is survived by his wife, Sharon Oberg; children, Trisha Williams, Traci (Jaime) Lewis, Sheiyne (Todd) Rosencrance, Selene (Chris) Beck and Jordan (Jenni) Tromburg; 15 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brothers, Jack (Cindy) Oberg and David Oberg; and sister, Nikki Sparks.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 6, 2021, at St. Germain Evangelical Free Church. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
