It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Peggy Gaszak, 78, our loving and devoted mother, grandmother and friend to all whose lives she touched, on Dec. 16, 2020.

She was born on Jan. 20, 1942, to Bernard and Felice Elskamp in Milwaukee, Wis.

She graduated from Mercy High School with her twin sister, Katherine, in 1960.

She married Daniel V. Gaszak on Jan. 21, 1961.

They moved to Eagle River, Wis., in 1978, where they owned and operated Paper Talk Quick Print.

Peggy also worked for the Vilas County News-Review as a proofreader for many years.

Peggy adored her grandchildren and loved to have them all over to play games and build puzzles together.

She was a night owl and would stay up late reading, crocheting or playing with her grandchildren.

She enjoyed spending time with her family the most, but also loved taking walks and watching the birds and other wildlife in her yard.

She was a social butterfly, always making friends wherever she went.

You never left her house hungry as she would offer you food up until you left — usually lots of cheese, crackers and of course, cookies. It was not uncommon to get multiple hugs and kisses on your way out the door. She always walked you outside and stood in the driveway waving until you were completely out of sight.

You also could not leave without a jacket no matter the temperature outside. You could always expect a phone call on your birthday, along with a big hug and kiss and lots of love and gifts. She always made you feel special and loved.

She was preceded in death by her loving and devoted son, Daniel Gaszak, and her parents.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Dan, of Eagle River; daughter, JoAnn (Scott) Krusick of Watersmeet, Mich.; and daughter-in-law, Erin Gaszak of Eagle River.

She is also survived by her grandchildren, Ashley (Justin) Auestad, Alicia (John Werner) Gaszak of Menomonie, Devon (Rebecca Snider) Gaszak of Minocqua and Madesen Jovanovic of Eagle River; and one great-grandson; her twin sister, Katherine Marciniak of Milwaukee; and nieces and nephews.

Peggy passed away peacefully with her daughter and granddaughter, Ashley, by her side. We will miss her every day.

There will be a Celebration of Life held once it is safe to do so.
