Nellie E. Pietila (née Peters), a resident of Eagle River, died Thursday, Jan. 23,  2020, at Friendly Village in Rhinelander. She was 88. 

Mrs. Pietila worked at Simpson Electric for many years and at many other various jobs. She also coached little league baseball when her sons were young.

She was involved with the American Legion and Disabled American Veterans. She was the first woman to be Commander of American Legion Post 114 in Eagle River.

Mrs. Pietila was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Dorothy; two brothers, Robert, and Everett; two sisters, Marge Mayo, and Jane Zudmulder; and one daughter, Shannon.

She is survived by four sons, twins Michael and David, Martin Jr. (Lyn), and Gus; one daughter, Marilyn; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren, with one more on the way.

A celebration of life will take place in the spring.
