Norma G. Spurgeon, age 79, a 40-year resident of Phelps, Wis., passed away at Aspirus Wau­sau Hospital in Wausau, Wis., on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2019.

Norma was born on Oct. 12, 1939, in Ponca City, Okla., to Woodson and Laura Combs. She spent time living in different areas, as her father was a minister. She lived in Oklahoma, New Mexico, Missouri, Illinois, Nebraska and Kansas.

She married Gary Spurgeon on Sept. 3, 1960, in Nebraska.

She graduated from Calvary Bible College in 1962.  The remainder of her life was spent being a mother and pastor’s wife. She served the church in many capacities, but music was her love.

In her free time she enjoyed sewing, card making, bell collecting and scrapbooking.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents, Woodson and Laura Combs; her daughter, Lisa Cheryl Spurgeon; and brother, Neil Combs.

She is survived by her husband, Pastor Gary Spurgeon of Phelps; children, Scott (Karen) Spurgeon of Phelps, Wesley (Dawn) Spurgeon of Eagle River, Wis., and Joy Jakob of Australia; sister, Laura Lee Barker of Walnut Grove, Mo.; grandchildren, Erica, Larissa, Mark, Kendra, Daymion, Zach, Edward, Victoria, Charles, Thomas, Holly, Trent and Alec; and great- grandchildren, Emma, Easton, Chloe, Cailin, Jakobi, Amelia, and Henry.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2019, at Gaffney-Busha Funeral Home in Eagle River. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
