Philip John Mietus, a lifelong resident of Eagle River, died Monday, Jan. 11, 2021, at Aurora-Bay Care Medical Center in Green Bay. He was 58.

He was born Jan. 2, 1963, in Rhinelander, to John and Cecile Mietus.

He grew up on a farm in Eagle River, and came from a large family of eight sisters and four brothers.

Mr. Mietus was self-employed as a roofer, carpenter and handyman in the Eagle River area.

He was a woodsman and enjoyed being outdoors surrounded by nature. He was passionate about ice fishing and enjoyed playing pool.

Mr. Mietus was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Suzanne Brackett; and three brothers, John, William and Donald.

He is survived by seven sisters, Barbara Hall of Crystal, Minn., Paulette (Steve) McCoy of Novato, Calif., Ann Carter of Phoenix, Ariz., Mary Hart of Eagle River, Jane Carr of River Falls, Diana Mietus of Hopkins, Minn., and Jacquelyn (Glen) Jaeger of Inyokern, Calif.

A service and celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Gaffney-Busha Funeral Home in Eagle River is serving the family.
