Richard “Rick” Whitehead, age 66, a lifelong resident of Phelps, Wis., passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2019, at Seasons of Life.

He was born in Phelps on May 19, 1953, to Robert and Joyce Whitehead.

Rick worked as a stone mason in the area.

He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed fishing in Lake Michigan while at his summer home in Algoma, Wis.  Rick was an outdoorsman and loved hunting, fishing and trapping. 

Rick was preceded in death by his father, Robert Whitehead; stepmother, Ardith Whitehead; and stepfather, Tom Spurgeon.

He is survived by mother, Joyce Spurgeon of Phelps; daughter, Stephanie Boett­cher of Merrill, Wis.; sons, Rick Whitehead of Tomahawk, Wis., Damian (Dawn) Seals of Phelps, Nathan Whitehead of Janesville, Wis., Chris (Melisa) Whitehead of Eagle River, Wis., and Cody (Jenna) Whitehead of Eagle River; brothers, Scott (Fay) Whitehead of Iron River, Mich., Rod (Linda) Whitehead of Phelps, and John Whitehead of Tremonton, Utah; sisters, Wendy (George) Dayton of Denver, Colo., Wanda (John) Riihimaki of Phelps, Tammy (Gary) Linback of Atlanta, Ga., Freda Whitehead Fielding of Utah, Fawn (Marcello) Ortiz of Vernal, Utah, and Bobbi (Jerry) Williams of Iron River, Mich.; grandchildren, Teagan, Jacob, Adam, Angela, Amanda, Caleb, Jacob, Dylan, Kayla, Caiden, Kendal, Jameson, Sierra and Allison.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 18, 2019, at Gaffney-Busha Funeral Home in Eagle River. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
