Robert “Bob” John Vandewalk-er, summer resident of Star Lake, died Saturday, Nov. 14, 2020, at his winter home in Fort Myers, Fla. He was 98. 

He was born Aug. 15, 1922, in Medford, to John and Ellen (née Carlson) Vandewalker.  

Mr. Vandewalker married Alice Marie Paulson June 6, 1948. They resided in Rockford, Ill. and Dundee, Ill. while working and raising their children before retiring to Fort Myers.  

He served in the U.S. Marines during World War II. He earned a degree in electrical engineering at Illinois Institute of Technology.

He enjoyed boating, motorcycling, flying and reading, as well as spending time at his summer home on Lake Laura since 1964.

Mr. Vandewalker was preceded in death by his wife, Alice; his parents; and three sisters, Marie, Eva Darlene and Lorraine.

He is survived by one son, Jay (Linda) of Algonquin, Ill.; two daughters, Gail of Marion, Iowa, and Jean (John) of Cary, Ill.; five grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Per Mr. Vandewalker’s request, no funeral service will be held. Interment will be at Star Lake Cemetery.
