Robert E. Fischer, age 79, a resident of Eagle River, Wis., passed away June 20, 2019, at Ascen­sion Eagle River Hospital.

He was born on March 7, 1940, in Antigo, Wis., to Frank and Emma Fischer.

He graduated from Antigo High School, played college football and earned his teaching degree from UW-Stevens Point.

He taught and coached at Westboro, Wabeno, and moved to Eagle River in ’73 to finish his 37-year career at Northland Pines. He loved to coach a variety of sports but football was his favorite and he taught many of his students the love of sports and competition. After his coaching days ended, he spent many hours behind the wheel teaching Driver’s Ed.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling and spending time with his grandchildren. He also loved watching his beloved Packers, Brewers, and Badgers.

He was preceded in death by parents and sister, Pat Robinson.

Survived by loving wife of 50 years, Bonnie; daughters, Tammy (Neil) Johnson and Sandra (John) Apfel; grandchildren, Justine and E.J.; sisters, Betty Thomae and Marge (Jim) Mireski; and brother-in-law, Doug Robinson.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 26, 2019, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Eagle River. Visitation will be held from 9:30-11 a.m. at the church.
