Stanley W. “Bud” Holt, age 91, of Phelps, Wis., and formerly from Naperville, Ill., entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior Thursday, Sept. 5, 2019.

He was born in Chicago, Ill., on Oct. 24, 1927, to Stanley and Lydia (Thorsen) Holt.  He grew up in Cicero, Ill., but spent all his summers on the lake in Phelps.

Stanley served in the U.S. Army following World War II.

He graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in Electrical Engineering.

Stanley married Mary Louise Hohe on Feb. 3, 1951. They raised their three children in Naperville.

He worked as a plant engineer for Western Electric Co. until he retired. After his retirement, Stanley and Mary Lou decided to make Phelps their permanent home.

Stanley was an active member of the local Republican Party, and loved to “tink­er” and take on challenges many others would give up on. He had a lifelong love of trains and planes, and was always happy to travel.

Another highlight in his life was to be a part of the “Never Forgotten” Honor Flight XVI for veterans. 

Stanley is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary Lou; sons, Bill (Olivia) Holt and Ken (Julie) Holt, all of Oregon; and daughter, Linda (Carl) Bender of Kansas; grandchildren, Christopher (Felicity) Holt, Alex (Ele) Soto, Katie and Stephanie Holt, Tom (Jayme) Holt and Sarah Holt, and Claire and Adam Bender; as well as 21 great-grandchildren; and numerous dear cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2019, at 11 a.m. at Gaffney-Busha Funeral Home, 304 E. Division St., Eagle River, Wis., with Pastors Frank Puffer and Gary Spurgeon officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
